The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) supports Bausch and Lomb’s
decision to voluntarily withdraw ReNu MoistureLoc contact lens solution
from the market. The agency began an investigation into the Greenville,
SC manufacturing plant on March 22nd and will be continuing to inspect
their facilities next week.
The FDA is not certain whether Bausch & Lomb’s ReNu MoistureLoc is
responsible for the Fusarium keratitis eye fungus outbreak. The FDA is
working closely with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in this
investigation, according to the FDA.
ABC News reported that the FDA announced today that consumers should
immediately stop using and discard ReNu with MoistureLoc contact lens
solution, as more cases of fungal infections have been reported among
people using the product.
