(Best Syndication News) ORLANDO, Fla. - Results of a Mayo Clinic study show the incidence of stroke or mini-stroke related to a coronary angioplasty remained steady over a 15-year period. Researchers say this is good news because physicians now are performing the artery-opening procedure on older patients who are sicker and need more complicated treatment.

The results will be presented today at the American Heart Association's Scientific Sessions 2009 in Orlando, Fla.

Angioplasty, a procedure used to open clogged arteries, can improve chest pain or shortness of breath, or open an artery quickly to reduce damage to the heart during an attack.

Understanding Hormones

To most of us, talking about hormones means estrogen, progesterone and testosterone. True enough, they’re hormones, and we all have all of them. Men, women and children have them, in different proportions of course, but none of us can make it without all three working together.

But these three aren’t even half the hormone story, just a small part of the endocrine system–the system that keeps life’s wheels turning. And every part of it creates hormones.

Our thyroid glands produce the thyroid hormone that controls our metabolism. If the thyroid gland goes south, oh my dear, do you ever know it! You don’t know when or how the truck hit you, but you’re persuaded beyond a reasonable doubt that’s what happened.

Because sleep apnea can prove to be a distressing and fatal disorder, undergoing treatments is necessary. Sleep apnea treatments are designed to meet two goals. One is to relieve sleep apnea symptoms and two is to normalize breathing patterns.

Treatments depend on the severity of the disorder. However, the effectiveness of the treatments is partially dependent on the regularity of follow-ups and constant and open communication between the doctor and patient.

If you could curtail the problem, you could also prevent development or onset of heart diseases, high blood pressure, diabetes, and other health concerns. There are many other ways to deal effectively with sleep apnea so it would not hamper your overall quality of life.

(Best Syndication News) New research links sleep apnea to heart arrhythmias that can cause sudden death from cardiac arrest. The sleep disorder can lead to ventricular arrhythmias which are more dangerous than atrial arrhythmias like atrial fibrillation and flutter. The ventricles are the lower chambers and they are associated with sudden death.

Sleep apnea is a common problem that can be diagnosed with a sleep study. Most people are not aware they have the problem but their partners may be. Symptoms include daytime sleepiness and nighttime snoring. The sleeper may be unaware that he (or sometimes she) has stopped breathing momentarily throughout the night.

CPAP May Stop Snoring And Save Lives

CPAP and Mask - source: wik

(Best Syndication News) There is one sure-fire way to stop snoring. Typically the sound caused during sleep is due to a relaxation in the nose or throat. The problem could be a sign of a more serious problem like obstructive sleep apnea. It has been estimated that between 30 and 50 percent of people snore, depending on the country.

A sleep study can diagnose the problem and determine whether a Continuous Positive Air Pressure (CPAP) machine is needed. This will open the airways and stop the snoring in nearly all instances.
