Playground Bully is more likely to be exposed to Violence at Home

Bully Book at Amazon

Children that are bullies at school are more likely to have witnessed violence at home compared to children that did not see this aggressive behavior. Researchers from the University of Washington and Indiana University have completed one of the first of its kind study in the United States that examined the relationship of violent parents and the effects of the child becoming a bully at school.

The researchers also were able to group two different kinds of bullying. One kind of bullying is called physical aggression which includes hitting, pushing and any other outward expression of hostility. The second type of bullying is called relational aggression which includes teasing, being mean, and ostracizing peers.

Teach Your Child Grammar Early

Teach Your Child Grammar Early

For some reason, grammar is the “forgotten cousin” of reading programs. Back in the good old days, second- and third-graders would learn what a noun is, and the difference between present and past tense verbs. Now the educational system waits until middle school, which is long past the best learning age. Kids then wonder why they need to learn rules about talking and writing, and get no good answers.

As the parent, you have the power to bring language to life for your children.

Foreign language learning for business success

If you understand a language then you will understand to a large extent the culture that goes with it, and if you understand the culture you will pick up on subtleties that you might otherwise miss. In any negotiation or business relationship the more you understand about the needs and wants of the other party the more likely you are to be able to reach an advantageous outcome (for both sides). This is well recognized, but less widely taken into account is the favourable impression that speaking another language gives about you, and this is what I want to consider.

Life before Television - Creating Your Imagery Again

Life before Television - Creating Your Imagery Again

Having a love-hate relationship with your TV? Tell me about it. Can't live with it--can't live without it, right? When my son was about age nine, he shared an experience he had while reading. He told me about reading something and, "... it was almost like being there". He's since become an avid reader which has helped him in all areas of study. A real parent's dream.

So what does this have to do with TV? I know, I know, this topic has been beaten to death; we watch too much television, it rules our lives and it's overloaded with sex, violence and materialism. Everyone's heard this all before; how the television replaced the family hearth, etc., etc.
