[Best Syndication News] The National Salt Reduction Initiative which is being led by New York City along with other cities aim to reduce the amount of salt in pre-made packaged foods and restaurant foods. The reason for this is that US citizens can consume twice as much salt required on a daily basis which puts them at a higher risk for developing high blood pressure. Increased blood pressure is known to increase the risk for having a stroke or a heart attack.
Most of the sodium intake comes from prepared foods accounting for roughly 80 percent of the daily intake while only 11 percent comes directly from the saltshaker. That is why they want to reduce sodium levels in food that are pre-made or prepared at a restaurant to reduce the amount of sodium that they contain.
