A report by UNICEF India in January 2009 found that about a million neonatal deaths occur in the country each year. Uttar Pradesh (U.P.) has the largest population of any state in India and continuing problems with neonatal mortality. In an effort to tackle this problem PATH India with funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has initiated Sure Start, a five year project that works with a population of roughly 25 million in Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra.

A major contributor to these death rates is the lack of literacy and awareness that exists in the rural areas of the country. For example, the benefits of immediate and exclusive breastfeeding are not well understood. For this purpose Sure Start in U.P. works with community health workers and facilitates the functioning of village health and sanitation committees.

Best Syndication News

Popular television commercials involving 2 or 3 year olds would often project toddlers as the most inquisitive, boisterous, and tantrum-sensitive of all children -- and this is true. While the toddler stage can be the most adorable, as this is the time they make wonderful discoveries about themselves and their environment, it can also be the most stressful.

If you're a new parent, chances are you've read so many books about toddlers discipline and how to rein your child in and listen to you. Let me tell you that handling toddlers will definitely test your good parenting skills.

Discipline From Different Angles

There is no one way to discipline a toddler. Every child has his or her own set of characteristics and attitudes that it is difficult to prescribe a single no-fail way to address the issue. In short, how you discipline your child will depend on the toddlers activity and how he or she responds to you.

[Best Syndication News] The American Dietetic Association expressed a warm interest in a report that was issued by the Institute of Medicine (IOM) this week that would encourage standards for the federal school meal programs to attain a certain amount of nutrition balanced with a limit on the amount of calories in a meal served to children attending public schools. The IOM report is titled, “School Meals: Building Blocks for Healthy Children.”

The IOM are very much in line with what the American Dietetic Association (ADA) has been recommending for the last few years to help improve the quality of the child school lunch program.

The recommendations in the IOM report address the National School Lunch Program as well as the School Breakfast Program. The IOM also suggested that the US Department of Agriculture fund future research on the success of school meal programs.

There are a lot of superstitions out there about how tall a person grows and how to grow taller. Some of these superstitions are just made up stories that in ancient times were told to people in order to pass on the wisdom that they had.

In some cultures growing tall meant that you are able to touch the skies and place ancestors that have passed away in the heavens and in some other cultures meant that you can touch the gods themselves. If you are tall you could bring the rain in a drought or have great wisdom. Here are some of the cultures and their beliefs in why people get or are tall.

In the times of the gods, being tall meant that you can touch the gods. If you could touch the gods then you could ask them for just about anything you wanted. The bringing of water from the sky or for a good crop to harvest, anything was possible. Being tall back when the Egyptian gods were around meant that you got special privileges and great honor but with all of that honor and responsibility, no one knew how people from their heritage grew so tall.
