(Best Syndication News) A study published in the Archives of Pediatric & Adolescent Medicine indicates that abstinence-only intervention can be effective in young adolescents to prevent sex.
The study involved 662 randomized African American students in grades 6th and 7th grade. The kids were divided up into four groups and given different forms of education. Here is a list of the interventions:
1) 8 hours of abstinence-only intervention targeting reduced sexual intercourse

[Best Syndication News] The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is proposing a $4.03 Billion budget to President Obama which is a 23 percent increase over the $3.28 billion it currently is working with in order to improve the agency. The FDA is asking for $750 million more dollars than they did the previous budget.
The budget increase would help overhaul the agency so that it will be better able to protect our food supply, our medicines and to help fine tune their stop smoking cigarettes campaigns and education programs.
The largest lump sump increase would go toward improving food safety with an extra $318.3 million going into this to establish what they call a national food safety system that would provide better inspection and response from the agency.

(Best Syndication News) A report in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology suggests that heart patients should avoid some herbal remedies including St. John's wort, gingko biloba, and garlic. Patients should also avoid grapefruit juice. These substances may interfere with medications.
Here are some examples:
St. John's wort is known for helping patients with depression but it can also reduces the effectiveness of medications contributing to recurrences of arrhythmia and high blood pressure. It can also increase in blood cholesterol levels and increase the risk for future heart problems.

[Best Syndication News] Scientists at the National Center for Atmospheric Research have an idea to help cool off city temperatures, paint building roofs white. The research model suggests that painting roofs white in urban areas worldwide could be a one way to counteract rising temperatures.
The effects of asphalt road, tar roofs and outer heat generators can raise city temperatures on average 2 – 5 degrees Fahrenheit. This phenomenon is called a city heat island effect. If the roofs where painted white it could reflect some of the heat back into space instead of being stored up in the buildings.
In the study they used a computer model that would simulated the amount of solar radiation that is typically absorbed or reflected on urban landscapes. The computer gave them an estimate that if every roof in the world was painted white the cities temperatures would reduce by 33 percent. On a global basis it would reduce the temperature by .7 degrees Fahrenheit. The best cooling would be seen of course in the heat of the summer days.

(Best Syndication News) The Obama Administration has decided to scrap plans to send another manned flight to the moon and work on rocket technology instead. The U.S. government has already spent $9.1 billion of the $100 billion proposed for the mission. Now it will cost another 2.5 billion to shut the program down.
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has selected some commercial firms to begin development of new crew transportation systems. The moon mission was to use rockets based on Space Shuttle booster. Many in the administration and NASA considered this “old technology”.
