WellPoint to buy Amerigroup for $4.9 Billion

(Best Syndication News) - WellPoint Inc. (NYSE: WLP) announced that they have reached an agreement with Amerigroup Corporation (NYSE:AGP) to acquire them. The definitive agreement includes terms for WellPoint to pay $92.00 per share in cash to buy all outstanding shares of Amerigroup. The transaction is valued at approximately $4.9 billion.

Amerigroup is a leading managed care company that serves the government sector health care market such as Medicaid and Medicare.

Angela F. Braly, Chair, President and Chief Executive Officer of WellPoint, said that buying Amerigroup would help WellPoint be in a better position to grow and prepare for the health insurance industry changes. This would help them to prepare for the upcoming Health Care Reform Act’s health insurance exchanges.

Walgreens reaches agreement to buy USA Drug Pharmacy Chain of Stores

(Best Syndication News) - Walgreens Co. (NYSE:WAG, NASDAQ:WAG) announced that they have reached an agreement with Stephen L. LaFrance Holdings, Inc. and members of the LaFrance family to acquire 144 stores that operate under the names USA Drug, Super D Drug, May’s Drug, Med0X, and Drug Warehouse. The drugstores operate in Arkansas, Kansas, Mississippi, Missouri, New Jersey, Oklahoma, and Tennessee.

The purchase price is estimated to be around $438 million, but could be adjusted in certain conditions. The purchase of the stores will also include corporate offices, and a distribution center in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. There is also a wholesale and private brand business that will be part of the purchase.

Airbus to open Manufacturing Plant in Alabama

(Best Syndication News) - Airbus announced today that they would be creating a manufacturing plant in Mobile, Alabama at the Brookley Aeroplex. This is the first production facility that Airbus is establishing in the United States. The plant will be assembling the A319, A320, and A321 airplanes.

The construction of the assembly plant is planned to break ground in the summer of 2013. The plant is expected to be in operation starting in 2015. The first airplane deliveries should begin around 2016. By 2018, it is expected to reach capacity of manufacturing between 40 and 50 airplanes yearly.

Fabrice Bregier, Airbus President & CEO, said at the announcement today in Mobile, that over the next 20 years, the projected demand is expected to be around 4,600 airplanes. The US is the largest market for single-aisle aircraft in the world.

Microsoft reaches agreement to buy Yammer for $1.2 Billion

(Best Syndication News) - Microfsoft Corp. (Nasdaq: MSFT) announced today that they have reached a definitive agreement with Yammer Inc. to purchase the social networking company for $1.2 billion in a cash purchase deal.

Yammer is essentially a social network for businesses to allow employees to collaborate, share files, and exchange ideas. The company has over 5 million corporate users; over 85 percent of them come from a Fortune 500 company. Yammer offers a free version and offers paid upgrades for more features. Yammer is a relatively young company that was launched in 2008.

US Household Net Worth declined $36K on average

(Best Syndication News) - According to the US Census Bureau, households in the US had a median decline in net worth of around 35 percent between 2005 and 2010. The net worth on average was $102,844 in 2005, and in 2010, it dropped down to $66,740. The main reason for the decline in net worth is from the reduced home values.

The US Census Bureau said that if you remove the home equity aspect, median household net worth actually increased by 8 percent between 2009 and 2010. The increase from the two years was $13,859 to $15,000, which is an additional $1,141 in net worth.
