Rocketfish Battery Case for iPhone is recalled due to Fire Hazard Risk
(Best Syndication News) Best Buy announced a voluntary recall of the Rocketfish Battery Case accessory for use with Apple iPhone 3G/3GS mobile phones because of a fire hazard risk when the battery case overheats when charging. The Rocketfish Battery Case has the model number RF-KL12 and there was around 31,000 sold in the U.S. and about 1,000 sold in Canada.
Best Buy said that there were 14 reports of the battery cases overheating with three reports of minor burns. Four people reported minor property damage. The injuries were not severe enough and the consumers did not need medical attention.
The RocketFish Battery Case was sold at Best Buy stores in the US and Canada, Future Shop stores in Canada, and at bestbuy.com, bestbuy.ca, and futureshop.ca websites sometime between April 2010 through September 2011. They sold for prices ranging between $10 and $60.
Best Buy has removed the product from store shelves, but is asking all consumers who have them to stop using them and to contact the company to get a Best Buy gift card for $70 US dollars or $105 Canadian dollars for returning the defective product.
To find out how to return the Rocketfish Battery Case to Best Buy, call the company toll-free at 800-917-5737 between 8 am – 8 pm ET. Customers can also go to www.bestbuy.com (US), www.bestbuy.ca, or www.futureshop.com (Canada) for instructions for returning the product.
Best Buy will be recycling the recalled units after they have been disassembled. A third-party electronics recycler will be used that meet Best Buys standards.
