Saw 6 and Paranormal Activity Win At Box Office – Previews and Trailers For Astro Boy and Where the Wild Things Are

Paranormal Activity - See Trailers Below

(Best Syndication news) Amazingly, the 2007 low budget film, “Paranormal Activity”, came in first place at the box office this weekend, despite the fact a new higher budget horror movie, “Saw VI” opened this weekend. With football games and the Angels vs Yankees game on Sunday, the totals were lower than usual (see all of the trailers below). “Astro Boy” also opened this weekend (see below).

Paranormal Activity

Similar to the “Blair Witch Project”, “Paranormal Activity” is filmed in the first person. A boyfriend and girlfriend living in San Diego decide to document their experiences. Katie (Katie Featherston) has been experiencing paranormal activity her whole life. Her boyfriend (might as well be her husband) decides to invest in a video camera and share their experience to the world.

The camera only aggravates the demon (they believe it is a demon). The activity becomes more aggressive until Katie is taken over by the demon.

According to the movie, the police are the ones providing the tape to the masses. The whole film takes place at their suburban San Diego house and there are only a couple extra characters; a paranormal expert and a friend of Katie’s. In the end some police show up but you can barely see their faces.

Saw VI

The new Saw iteration brought in less than $15 billion while “Paranormal Activity”, which cost just $15,000 to make, brought in $22 million. Now that Special Agent Strahm is dead, Detective Hoffman has become the new successor to Jigsaw's legacy.

Believe it or not, this Saw VI was the sixth episode. Wow, how time flies. This episode concludes the second trilogy, which focuses on the post-death effects of the Jigsaw Killer and his successor. The film also weighs heavily on today’s economic woes and the attempt by the government to regulate the health care industry.

Astro Boy

The new animation movie, “Astro Boy”, debuted in 6th place. At least it made it to the top ten in its opening weekend. Loosely based on the manga with the same name, the film stars the voices of Nicolas Cage, Donald Sutherland, Kristen Bell, Nathan Lane, Eugene Levy, Matt Lucas, Bill Nighy.
