Regent Seven Seas Cruises has announced a new, more relaxed dress code for its cruise ships.
The upmarket cruise liner previously operated two nights of “formal dress” on voyages of 16 days or more, during which it was required of all passengers to dress formally in the ship’s public areas. But the new dress code makes these formal nights optional.
The move comes as a result of feedback from passengers who voted “convincingly” in favour of a less formal dress policy on board Regent Seven Seas cruise liners.

The liner will now operate two evening dress codes on-board its ships; Elegant Casual and Formal Optional. Elegant Casual allows skirts, dresses, pant suits, blouses and sweaters for ladies, and slacks and collared shirts for gentlemen. The Formal Optional nights mean passengers can opt to dress in a more sophisticated manner, with evening gowns and cocktail dresses for ladies, and suits, tuxedos and dinner jackets for gentlemen.
These dress codes will be operational from 6pm onwards every evening in all public areas of the ship.
However, Regent Seven Seas has not changed its viewpoint that casual clothing such as jeans, t-shirts, baseball caps, shorts and trainers, is “not considered appropriate” for evening wear on-board its liners.
The new dress code will come into force on Regent Seven Seas’ 2009/2010 New Years cruises.
