[Best Syndication News] Doctor Oz warned viewers that this flu season could be the worst ever on today's Dr. Oz TV show.

The producers of the show put a cardboard cutout of Doctor Oz asking if they knew “What is the different from a cold and a flu?”

Doctor Oz told the audience in the show that the cold and the flu similarities are that they both can be spread from individual to individual quickly and easily.

He had a medical doctor on the show the is a specialist on the cold and flu subject and the expert said that both the cold or the flu is passed typically by coughing and sneezing.

Doctor Oz showed animations and graphics of how sneezing spreads the germs. The slow motion video he showed of a real life person sneezing was really amazing how much moisture was sprayed out during the sneeze. Oz continued to explain that when you sneeze particles travel at a hundred miles per hour. It can go into your body and then the germs lodge themselves and begin to multiply.

The expert explained that colds typically comes from the rhino virus which typically likes to bond the the nose tissue while the Flu virus comes from the Orthomyxo virus and myxa means mucus and they will also bind in the nose.

Dr. Oz had the audience help him to Chart out the Symptoms Typically seen in the Flu or the Cold:

Typical Flu Symptoms – body aches, chest pain, fever

Typical Cold Symptoms – sneezing, stuffy nose, sore throat

Doctor Oz explained that a cold lasts between 3 – 7 days, while the flu typically lasts between 5 -6 days and could go as long as 14 days.

Of the two, the common cold is a milder illness, that usually affects the upper airways. It can cause congestion in the nasal passages and sinusitis as well as earaches.

The flu has a more serious complication which is pneumonia. Anti-viral medications if used early on can help a person to recover from the flu.

Doctor Oz said that vaccines are available for the flu but the common cold doesn't have a vaccination. He suggests getting the yearly flu vaccinations available each fall.

Dr. Oz said that hand washing is helpful in preventing the spread of the flu. Dr. Oz said you need to wash your hands as long as the time of singing happy birthday twice.

Last but not least, Doctor Oz discussed the herbal rememdy called “Asafoetida – devils dung.” It doesn't smell so good. It was used in the Spanish influenza pandemic. It could have an antiviral or an antimicrobial effect. You can get this at health food stores.

Of course if you are sick you probably should check in with your doctor for medical assistance.

Below is another video explanation of the differences between the flu and the cold.
