(Best Syndication News) Amazingly, last week’s winner at the box office, “Couples Retreat”, fell to fourth place behind “Where the Wild Things Are”, “Law Abiding Citizen” and even the homespun low budget movie “Paranormal Activity”. Another new movie, “The Stepfather”, came in 5th place.
Kids can be misunderstood, and Max (Max Records – “The Brothers Bloom” 2008) is no exception. After an argument with his mother’s boyfriend, Max runs off into the woods and comes across upon a small boat.

After sailing into the sea he comes upon a mysterious land where the wild things are. Hoping they don’t eat him, Max tells the inhabitants that he was a king. Although based on a 40-page children’s book, the film is much more.
Comedian, musicman and actor, the multi-talented Jamie Fox stars in “Law Abiding Citizen”. Be forewarned, this is not a comedy. “Law Abiding Citizen” is a crime-drama thriller.
Besides being a genius, Clyde Shelton (Gerard Butler – “The Ugly Truth”) is a law abiding citizen who loves his family. That all changed when some thugs decided to kill his family. At least the part about being a law abiding citizen who loves his family changed.
After the prosecutor (Jamie Foxx – “The Soloist” and “The Jamie Fox Show” on TV) makes a deal with the accused thugs avoiding the death penalty, Shelton takes the law into his own hands. In an interesting twist, the genius is able to perform all of this mayhem while he is behind bars.
Although no comedies were released this weekend, a new horror film, “The Stepfather”, made it to the big screen. This new film raises the specter of stepparents.
The children become suspicious of the stepfather when they can’t find out anything from his past. Adding to the suspicion, the family discovers he looks just like a man on “America’s most Wanted”.
