(Best Syndication News) The new Vince Vaughn comedy, “Couples Retreat”, came in first place this weekend at the box office knocking off last week’s winner, “Zombieland” (see all of the previews below). It is rare that two comedies hold the number one and two position at the box office.
“Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” raked in $12 million hitting the third place slot followed by the 1995 “Toy Story”. A movie that has been around for a while as a low budget cult film finally hit it big. The 2007 homespun film, “Paranormal Activity”, came in fourth place. Amazingly, the Michael Moore documentary “Capitalism: A Love Story” is hanging on to top ten this week. Documentaries usually fall right off the charts in their second week (see box office totals below).

As a last resort to save their marriage, Jason (Jason Bateman – “Hancock”) and Cynthia (Kristen Bell – “Pulse”) decide to take a special vacation to work things out. They invite their friends to the tropical resort which seems great at first; until they find out they have to participate in a bunch of “activities”.
The various activities force all of the couples into marriage therapy. The movie also stars: Vince Vaughn, Jon Favreau, Malin Akerman, Kristen Davis, Faizon Love, and Kali Hawk.
Similar to “The Blair Witch Project”, the new film “Paranormal Activity” is shot through the eyes of a couple who move into a haunted house.
Producer, Director and writer Oren Peli created the film on a shoestring budget of $15,000. Shooting only lasted only one week. The film was edited a it was shot and the visual effects were added later.
