[Best Syndication News] On today's Dr. Oz TV Show, he discussed how stress contributes greatly to shortening our lifespan and suggested ways to reduce stress.
Doctor Oz had an expert recommend four things that you can do for 5 minutes every day to help reduce your stress levels.
She told the viewers to remember the Acronym S.E.L.F. (self) so that it will become an every day practice in reducing stress.
S – Serenity
E – Exercise
L – Love
F – Food

She said that serenity is taking a 5 minute pause from the busy lifestyle that most people have each day. This could include meditation or just closing your eyes and relaxing for a break.
Exercise she suggested would help to reduce stress levels.
Love she said as in the form of intimacy and being connected to others. She said that isolation kills people and being socially involved in your community can help to lower stress levels.
Food she said can be used like medicine. She recommended eating breakfast every morning to improve your mood and to increase your metabolism.
Doctor Oz had a audience member participate in a stress study. She was monitored over a day for her stress levels by keeping track of her blood pressure throughout the day. She said that her day that they monitored her she was having an 8 out of a 10 for a stressful day. Dr. Oz said that there were several times that her blood pressure measured as hypertensive. He said that instead of taking medicine she could try to change her lifestyle and her breathing was shallow and it might help naturally keep her blood pressure in check. Doctor Oz showed her one method to lowering stress levels with a Yoga pose called Down Dog (also known as downward dog yoga pose).
On the show they said that women tend to stress more about the economy, job security and family health problems than do men. Doctor Oz also said that coffee and sugar can increase the cortisol stress hormone in our body. He said that reducing those foods may help to prevent some of the damage that occurs to the body when it is stressed.
