Doctor Oz TV Show on getting Prepared for the H1N1 Swine Flu Virus

[Best Syndication News] One of the interesting topics on FOX's The Doctor Oz TV Show was information on how to prepare for the H1N1 swine flu pandemic. Doctor Oz warned the viewers and audience members that the swine flu pandemic could have a second sweep the Fall and it could be more deadly. Oz said that so far is the US has had the most cases of swine flu with over 1 million that have been infected.

Dr. Oz reminded us that the 1918 flu that killed so many was extremely deadly when it came back in the second time round.

Dr. Oz said that the swine flu virus came from humans and birds and met up in pigs. The new virus got into humans. It was very contagious. It spread from Mexico and across the boarder into the US and spread quickly from there.

Dr. Oz invited experts in the pandemic. Anthony Fauci, MD said that it could be a real strain on the health care community. The swine flu is different, Fauci explains, in that it is harder on the younger healthier people. The older people may have some cross reacting immunity that might help protect them. People that have pre-existing medical conditions may be at a higher risk.

Doctor Oz pointed out the symptoms that would develop and things to watch for if you did catch the Swine Flu. He came up with the following time line and also checklists of when you should seek out medical help if you are infected.

Day 0-2 No Symptoms yet

Day 3 Body Aches and Pains

Day 4-8 Cough, a sore throat, vomiting, and diarrhea may occur

Day 7-10 The person may begin to feel better but they could also develop breathing problems.

Kristin Harkin, MD was in the New York epicenter where the first outbreak occurred. She explained how they cared for the sick patients.

Dr. Oz said that to often people wait to long before seeking medical attention when they get the swine flu. He showed the viewers a list of what warning signs in should spur them to seek out medical assistance.

Difficulty Breathing
Dizziness and Confusion
Vomiting

Children – Swine Flu Warning Signs that you Need Medical Attention are as follows:

Bluish or Gray Skin Color
Not Waking Up or Interacting
Symptoms Improve and then they get Worse Again

They experts are recommending that they get the Swine Flu vaccine as soon as it becomes available.

The vaccinations should be pregnant women, young children, health care works, people from 6 months to 24 years of age, then people with chronic medical conditions.

In addition to being vaccinated, Doctor Oz suggested that you should have an emergency kit in your home ready if your family comes down with the H1N1 swine flu virus. He suggest having at least 30 days of your prescriptions in your home at any given time.
