(Best Syndication News) Just when his career seemed back on track with a new series, “The Beast” which debuted in January on A&E, actor Patrick Swayze was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. One year and nine months after his diagnosis in January of 2008, the actor is dead at age 57, according to his publicist.
The actor touched many lives including many actors, actresses and news-people. Barbara Walters is quoted as saying "He fought the bravest battle and sadly lost. My heart goes out to his wonderful Lisa, his wife and soulmate for 34 years." He will be remembered by Kristy Alley who said "I will always cherish my amazing memories of Patrick ... we had so much fun together ... come back soon, Patrick, we need you here on earth."

The actor died at his home with his family and friends at his side. He beat the odds by living more than a year and a half after diagnosis. It is hard to catch pancreatic cancer early because of the location of the pancreas. By the time the tumor is big enough to touch a nerve and cause pain, it is usually too late.
According to Dr. Jeffrey Hardacre, assistant professor of surgery at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, the prognosis that is given to most patients with metastatic cancer is usually three to six months. It is unusual to see patients live longer than a year.
Although treatment is not considered very effective, patients are provided with medications to relieve the pain. While filming the beast he refused to take painkillers because he worried it would affect his performance.
Gary Busey is reported saying: "Patrick Swayze was a kindred spirit and a spiritual brother of mine. His focus was center target and his purpose was ... faith, kindness, grace, understanding and love. Patrick Swayze's Book of Life will never be over because he's moved on to the spiritual plateau where life is forever."
