[Best Syndication News] Beef Packers, a Fresno California based company is recalling almost 826,000 pounds of ground beef that may have been contaminated with salmonella. The grocery chain, Safeway Inc., has announced that they are recalling the ground beef sold in some of its stores because of the possible contamination.
Safeway said that the ground beef was sold at its full-service meat counter and also in its self-service area. In includes the fresh ground beef, ground beef patties, and fresh meatloaf products. The grocery store chain said that customers should either discard the hamburger, or to bring it back to the store for a full refund.
The Safeway recall reaches into 9 states were the grocery stores are located. They include Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, South Dakota and Wyoming.
The wide spread recall was repackaged under several different names, which makes it difficult for consumers to know if they have purchased contaminated ground beef products. USDA officials suggest that consumers should check with the store that they purchase the ground beef products to see if it is part of the recall.
Salmonella can be life-threatening. Symptoms of salmonella infection includes diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever. This particular strain of salmonella that is believed to have contaminated the beef is one that is resistant to medications that are commonly prescribed to treat an infection.
