[Best Syndication News] The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is forcing the manufacturers of smoking cessation drugs Chantix (varenicline) and Zyban (bupropion) to put a warning on the box that these medication. The want consumers to be aware that taking these medications can cause serious mental health events that include any changes in behavior, having a depressed mood, becoming hostile, and can even lead to suicidal thoughts when taking these drugs.

The FDA made this decision after they had received reports through the Adverse Event Reporting System since these medications were being sold to consumers and also they used information that from clinical trials and scientific literature to confirm these mental health risks.

The FDA concluded from this that some individuals that have taken Chantix and Zyban had experienced unexpected changes in behavior. Some of them became depressed or they became even more depressed along with suicidal thoughts and dying. The problems usually surfaced either when they first take the medication and when the medication was stopped. In some cases, they still continued to have mental behaviour changes even after the medication was stopped. In a few cases they said that there problems began only once the medication stopped.

The FDA think that part of the mental behavior change could be related to the withdrawal symptoms from nicotine. Both Chantix nor Zyban does not contain nicotine. If you would quit smoking cold turkey, symptoms of depression, anxiety, irritability, restlessness, and sleep disturbances are known to occur.

If you are taking these medications or have any mental mood changes you should always let your doctor know of these problems.

Chantix is manufactured by Pfizer Inc. located in New York. Zyban is manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline which is located in Brentford, Middlesex, United Kingdom.
