(Best Syndication) Pfizer released a study today which suggests that Lipitor is safer than Zocor when it comes to heart attacks and strokes. The researchers followed thousands of patients in the UK from 1997 to 2005. The study investigated whether switching to Zocor would increase the risk of cardiovascular problems.
There were 9,009 patients who stayed on Lipitor and 2,511 who switched to Zocor. They found that those who switched experienced a 30 percent increase in the risk of major cardiovascular “events”. These events included stroke and heart attack. Pfizer senior vice president, Dr. Michael Berelowitz, warns “It gives pause to the idea that switching is without consequence.”
